We finally decided on Tranquility Bay in Marathon...so now could anyone recommend places to see, restaurants? Also, what kind of weather can we expect in November? Is a day trip to Key West worth the drive? Any friendly advice would be appreciated.
It's official-tranquility bay in November! Recommendations? If you haven%26#39;t already booked.....
Take a look at Hawks Cay.
It's official-tranquility bay in November! Recommendations?Key West is an easy day trip from Marathon, about an hour. I%26#39;d sure want to visit if I were that close!
1) Mistake - should have picked Cheeca ;-) JUST KIDDING
1) What type of food do you want? Sparky%26#39;s landing isn%26#39;t far, I like the fish tacos and the tres leche dessert. Annettes Lobster House isn%26#39;t bad. Keys Fisheries for the lobster rueben, stone crab chowder and buffalo shrimp.
2) You%26#39;ll have your own kitchen if that interests you.
3) KW is an easy, beautiful 1 hour drive. I recommend it.
4) the weather will be better in the keys than in jersey.
Be careful. You may catch the Keys disease. My husband and I came here from the Jersey Shore 4 years ago and never went back!
Restaurants in Marathon/Key Colony Beach:
Sparky%26#39;s Landing is a must
We also enjoy Castaway and Burdines
Butterfly Cafe (at TB) is also very nice - I hope they bring back their brunch
November weather is beautiful.
A day trip to KW is another MUST. And, you%26#39;ll love the drive.
You may want to try fishing, snorkeling and/or kayaking.
Go to Bahia Honda State Park for at least part of a day.
One thing about TB - they do not actually have a spa on site, so beware. They send spa services to your room. If you%26#39;d like a really nice spa experience, go to the one at Hawks Cay.
Most importantly, have fun!
I agree with all of the above, Key West is worth going just to say you have been. Research some of the posts for Key West so you can make the most of your time there. You might want to do a snorkel trip or a sunset cruise. The Conch Train tour is great but takes a couple hours. There%26#39;s a Publix in Marathon near Tranquility where you can pick up drinks and snacks. They have a pretty good Key Lime pie too. A day trip to Islamorada is fun too. You will be near Bahia Honda State Park in Marathon which has some great picture taking spots. For a neat one of a kind dress shop go to Keykers. She is located next to the Publix plaza and has some great little clothes that aren%26#39;t the typical keys wear. The Sandal Factory in Islamorada (not the same as the Kino%26#39;s Sandal Factory in Key West) has great shoes, t-shirts, etc. Island Spice has some nice stuff too. We like the Lorelei in Islamorada for lunch when we go there on a day trip. It%26#39;s really hard to fit everything in that you may want to do. Make sure you leave a day just to relax at the pool and enjoy. Hope you have a great vacation!
Thank you so much for all your responses...I am taking notes!! We are really very excited about our trip...been to many cities in Florida, but first time at the Keys...and yes, I may not want to leave!!! Anything else you may think of would be appreciated!
There is also a Sandal Factory in Marathon (same as the one is Isla) in the shopping center next to Publix where the post office is - as well as Marathon Deli %26amp; Liquor for some nice yummies for your room.
My husband and I were at a wedding at TB last night and it was quite wonderful. Fabulous sunset.
Thank you for choosing Marathon, you are going to love it!
Call the Marathon Chamber of Commerce @ 1-800-262-7284 and ask for the coupons for Dolphin Research Center, that is a fun place to visit.
Sparky%26#39;s won The Best Happy Hour in Marathon this year, and they are well worth a visit.
Sombrero Beach is in Marathon, and a very pretty one at that!
If you want to get out on the water and fish try Main Attraction for deep sea fishing and seasquaredcharter.com for reef and off shore fishing. Both will tailor a day on the water for you. You will catch fish with both and Sparky%26#39;s can cook your catch!
Key West is well worth the drive, just plan on being there for the sunset, it is an occasion every night!
You are going to love Tranquility Bay, it is a beautiful property.
Have fun and again, thanks for choosing Marathon!
I just got back from a one week stay in Marathon and it was freakin awesome. You will have such a good time. Sparky%26#39;s was our favorite place to eat and drink, we started to feel like locals by the end of the week. My family of 3 fished with Seasquared charters and had an absolute blast. They are from jersey and lots of fun to hang out with. We really enjoyed Bahia Honda, went there 3 times. We also made 2 trips to key west to cruise the shops and watch the sunset at Mallory Square. The street performers were a real hoot to watch also. bring lots of 1$ bills for the tip buckets.
Also had great food service at IHOP, Stuffed Pig, Keys Fisheries, Cheeseburgers in KW, Boondocks on Ramrod Key w/ great mini golf too. The only place we didnt care for was Porkys. The waitress was good but the food was bland and more expensive than the other places. bathrooms smelled like pee.
hilight for our trip was the fishing. www.seasquaredcharters.com
Thank you...I%26#39;m taking notes!! I also called Marathon%26#39;s Chamber of Commerce, and they%26#39;ve been very helpful...Two and a half weeks to go, and ready for some warmth after NJ%26#39;s first frost!!!
