Ugh! AirTran!

My favorite airline might have just lost me...not happy about this!

Effective December 5, 2008, for all reservations booked on or after November 12, 2008, the charge for the first checked bag will be $15. For reservations booked prior to this date, for each fare-paying customer, AirTran Airways will allow one (1) checked bag free of charge, with size and weight limitations (see baggage allowance details below).

I will stick with Southwest from now on and hope that Disney makes the Deal with them to have the Airline Check-in at the Resorts soon, like they have with AirTran

Airtran are actually more then jetblue out of White Plains, NY. So I have never used them. Southwest out of Hartford, CT are always more then any Jetblue out of NY. Again I have not used them.

15.00 does make a difference.

I booked through AirTran about a month ago and got a great price so I am not surprised at all that they are starting to charge for checked baggage, I%26#39;m actually surprised that they are just starting as most airlines already charge.

Oh well, good thing I travel light.

Macs: My bf swears by JetBlue, but everytime I check they%26#39;re a good $50+ more and require a layover in NYC...AirTran usually lays over in Balt or Atlanta and I try my best to go through Balt. I suppose I%26#39;ll still go with AirTran if it%26#39;s as big of a difference as usual. It%26#39;s just the principle of the thing!

And Southwest is out of Buffalo, which isn%26#39;t too bad of a drive (about an hour) but the Rochester airport is just SO close to my place! (Like 15 minutes!) And I%26#39;ve had some not so good experiences with them lately. I%26#39;ve always sworn by AirTran and now they go and do this?! Not happy about it :( But I%26#39;ll probably still fly them when it comes down to it :P

Oh and Missy: if you booked a month ago, you%26#39;re still okay for that first checked piece. They%26#39;ve always had the second bag fee, but the first will be free for you. In Dec and Feb, I%26#39;ll be checking my bag, because I%26#39;m stubborn. (Usually I just carry it on, but hey! I booked before Nov 12!)

Great!! I just booked flights with Air Tran last night and did not see that. There are 6 of us flying and the tickets were already $650 a piece. This really stinks!!

Nosun- Do carry on. 6 of you means 6 carry on bags. Plus instead of a purse, use a tote as a purse. Again more room.

We have traveled with 8 of us all doing carry on. It is easy if going to a warm weather area, since the clothes are smaller to pack.

Doing carryon is a good idea as long as the flight is not too full. I have had flights where they have run out of overhead bin space and you still had to check your bag.

If they run out of room, that is there fault. I would not pay the 15.00 per bag.

I hate the check bag fee for this reason. It makes boarding the plane crazier.

I agree-stick with carry on. It saves so much time and so much hassle. I have never had my carry on bag taken from me to be checked and I fly out of the 3 NYC area airports on mega crowded flights-might be more of an international flight problem.
