car renting

Hi everyone,

I am still struggling about car renting during my 5-days stay on Captiva. The thing is that I am going with my 23-year old son and he wants to drive. That makes renting much more expensive. In order to do the math I need to know how much does a taxi cab cost from Fort Myers airport to South Seas and how much it is to get from Captiva to Senibel.

We made the mistake of taking a taxi to Captiva Village back in 2001. It was $75.00 from the airport plus tip. Because we were staying for two weeks, I took a taxi back down to Bailey%26#39;s grocery on Sanibel. Round trip from Captiva to Sanibel was approx. $50.00. Then it was $85. plus tip to go back to the airport at the end of our vacation. Incredibly expensive. It is not like hopping into a taxi in Chicago or NYC. You have to pre-arrange everything with pick ups and drop offs. Not trying to offend you at all here, but, I can%26#39;t stress to you enough that you will indeed want a car if you are planning to leave South Seas during your stay.

I went to the Priceline website and plugged in a few dates right before Christmas. Prices came up as low as $44.00 per day. Not sure of your exact dates or how many are traveling. Rates were a lot lower on Priceline than what Travelocity was showing.

We were in Captiva this summer with our 19 year old and his 21 year old friend and we just simply didn%26#39;t allow them to drive the rental. Saved us a lot on the rate. They were fine and lived through it. There isn%26#39;t a lot of night life on Captiva or Sanibel. If your son wanted to check out the few Rest./bars on Captiva, they are all walkable from the entrance of South Seas.

Not trying to sway you one way or the other. Just trying to give you as much info. to make the choice that is right for you!
