I%26#39;m planning a little getaway for myself over my birthday in February. I%26#39;ve been to Florida several times, but I want to explore somewhere new. I want to find somewhere with a pretty beach that%26#39;s not super-expensive, somewhere where it%26#39;s possible to find NON-touristy things to do, somewhere middle of the road - not seedy, but not posh either. Great outlet shopping would be a plus, but mostly I want to relax on the beach and seek out great places to eat fresh seafood. I%26#39;ve already done Daytona, Orlando and Miami, so I%26#39;m leaning more towards the gulf side. I also would like to go somewhere that%26#39;s not a total retirement community. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Clearwater Beach usually draws a bit of a younger crowd. But, in Feb there might not be many locals out on the beach, so it may be mostly whoever happens to be visiting at the time. Many good seafood restaurants, bars and shops on the beach, walkable from just about any hotel on the beach. Definately is middle of the road, as is the gulf coast from Clearwater down through St. Pete Beach.
You may want to stick to either Clearwater Beach, or Treasure Island/St. Pete Beach for more activity, as the smaller communities between them, while not being all retirees, they are slower paced, less crowded, lots of condos type of places.
Further South, Say, Sanibel, Naples, Marco Island etc get to be the high end of middle of the road to posh, generally speaking, but will be a few degrees warmer in Feb.
Only thing on your list that you will be missing in Clw/St. Pete is outlet shops. But, if you will have a car, there are the Prime Outlets at Ellenton, www.primeoutlets.com which will be about an hour/15min drive from Clearwater Beach, or about 30 minutes drive from South St. Pete Beach.
