Good news on the horizon - take note Shortyone

Just saw on the Fox 35 news channel here in the USA that they - the Senate - will be voting on a new Silver Visa for foreign retirees who have a house in the USA. That means that they will be able to live in the USA year round intead of going home after 6 months for a few months. Looks like the USA are thinking sensibly and welcoming in foreigners with some money behind them with will be boosting their economy - I will be watching the developments with bated breath!

Wouldn%26#39;t the major drawback be the health insurance question for older people ?

Thanks for posting this! This is exciting to hear.

As I understand it, if you stay on this level of Visa, you would be required to have proof of insurance that would cover you in the US, either purchased abroad or here. If you incur costs not covered and do not pay, the visa can be terminated.

How old do we have to be? It is starting to snow and I could do with a move. I am healthy.

I have decided I am now retired. Does that count?

Di, you must be a very smelly person, what with sitting in Wind seats and bated breath???!!!! lol.

We nearly moved to America when i was younger, but my Mum has Kidney problems and it would have been to expensive for health insurance or something.

I have never forgiven then and am still having counselling 27 years on.

I hate my Mother!!!! LOL

Caz Essex X

wow would be great if this comes off,...keep us up to date please! Do you think age 42 would count as a suitable retirement age?

I should think they would be gagging with all the cash old %26#39;brits%26#39; could spend in hospitals having been caught outside the NHS net.

My mom spent 3 weeks in intensive care in 98. cost like $50,000 then. Imagine what it would cost now. She had insurance, but still paid out almost 10 grand back then. Could be a real mney spinner, as it would take 3 weeks of intensive care just to get them ready for an evac flight home.

Although, if you spend 6 months or more outside the UK I believe you can lose your right to free NHS treatment.

Not full time In FL. Too hot in summer for me now.
