Dusk vs dawn for noseeums

I will be in Sanibel late Oct for my first trip!! All posts I read about those nasty noseeums seem to be a problem at dusk. Are they present during the early dawn hours (my favorite time to be out suarching for treasures).

Has anyone tried the Buzz Away?

Dusk vs dawn for noseeums

I think it will depend on how humid and breezy it is in the am. I am a noseeum magnet, and I seem to get bit on my early walks if it is humid and still. If there is a breeze, way better.

Buzz is getting positive comments from posters - I am going to try it out in November. I would make sure to wear a strong insect repellant, deep woods off, etc.

Dusk vs dawn for noseeums

Someone awhile ago said Buzz Away worked for them on Sanibel- it is getting raves reviews here in Maine for black flies which like the noseeums very little works on.

Dusk and dawn are both pretty bad for those little critters! What works for me is Florida Swamp Water. I believe they have it at Bailey%26#39;s.

I agree with SV- it mostly depends on wind conditions- even a slight breeze keeps them away.

It is all about the wind. We got swarmed with them in the middle of day this summer, it was low tide and there was no wind, and out they came.

I got eaten up pretty good last weekend, after dinner one night. It was my first trip to Sanibel. Are they like that all year?

Tom

Tom - the little buggers seem to be worse in the summer and into the fall when it is humid. That said, I have been bit in the early spring. Noseeums can present themselves anytime, as long as weather conditions are right - humid, no breeze.

I get bit year round - they LOVE me. Of course, I spent tons of time in the refuge, so I%26#39;m closer to still water than if I were on the beach. But I%26#39;ve been eaten up just standing in my backyard away from water in the middle of the day.

Best advice is to use some type of stuff to keep them away from you - DEET, Skin So Soft, or perhaps other products mentioned. I also wear long sleeves and pants as, unlike mosquitoes, they can%26#39;t bite through fabric.

Good news is that you can build up resistance to them. When we first started going to Sanibel, I was one of the horribly allergic people, huge, bright red welts that not only itched but hurt and lasted for months, but through time, I now have a more normal reaction and each stay, it is less and less. And my husband is one of those people who they don%26#39;t like and even if he%26#39;s bit, it%26#39;s barely an annoyance! Life sometimes just isn%26#39;t fair...

Didn%26#39;t matter what time of day I went out last week...I was eaten alive, even though I was %26#39;shellacked%26#39; with everything recommended...I%26#39;ve tried them all, every time we go. I must be a no-seeum magnet! I do have to say that every year the number of bites have been decreasing...this time only 75 or 80. One year we counted 147 on my left leg alone!

Happy to report my 3 toddler grandkids %26amp; husband didn%26#39;t have any bites....

147? Are you feeling ok? Yikes!
