MBL called it.
I passed by Jambone today as my lunch alarm was sounding in my belly, zipped right in.
Feasted on a pulled pork sandwich with their signature Texas Mustard BBQ sauce and fries (no potato salad, hint hint) and tried their California White sauce for the fries- a spicy mayo based sauce that was very good.
Free keg every Thur %26#39;till it%26#39;s gone.
This is a dark, sports bar like atmosphere that I%26#39;m sure most guys (and MBLs) will feel very comfortable in.
Jambone- Excellent BBQ
Woo-hoo! I told hubby that he%26#39;ll want to try out Jambone on our next trip. The food sounds really good. It sounds like we might have to order it to go since we have a 5 year old in tow.
Jambone- Excellent BBQ
I%26#39;m sorry, but this is the first time I noticed your avatar picture on here JM. I mean I%26#39;ve seen you in the videos, but I LOVE IT!
Man, this forum always makes me hungry. Now I have to wait a year to try that BBQ. :(
can%26#39;t wait to try it out thursday, shame about the tater salad, but moderation in all things....
i really like hambone%26#39;s sign...a hardwood joint, now that has the makings of a first class bobbycue joint. look for the wood outside, and smell the smoke. my other hard fast rule for first rate bbq joints is that they MUST have COLD PICKLES.
But the big question is....do you like your sauce already mixed in the BBQ or do you like to add it yourself?
I am a mixed in kind of person. I used to have a fave BBQ place in Evansville, IN and I always got the Pork-n-Sauce so it is already mixed in. Since I moved to the STL area, it is always an add your own experience.
For the record, my fave in Evansville always served the BBQ with slices of rye bread, sliced onion, and pickles. I always picked my two sides as american potato salad and BBQ baked beans (got the BBQ cheddar fries as an appetizer, so didn%26#39;t need that).
i personally prefer sauce on the side, but if the sauce is real good, and neither smothered nor miserly doled out i%26#39;m okay with mixed. most of the bbq places i am familiar with like to mix it, as it%26#39;s easier, and they feel like they are selling the sauce at the same price the meat goes for, but in the long run, unless it smothers the meat, i%26#39;m okay with it being mixed.
For the Jambone record:
1. They have large bags of various wood stacked up against a wall next to the counter.
2. The pork is served sauceless with your sauce choices on the table and other exotic sauces available for an upcharge. Very large portion for a sandwich with one side, they also offer baskets with two sides.
3. Cold pickle and red onion slices on the side.
4. Great bun, kinda like an onion roll without onions.
It will be my new bbq haunt.
sounds like my kind of place. how are the sides? do they have stew? are the beans any good? do they have ribs...brisket maybe?
though i am not a big fan of upcharges, especially for bbq sauce. i that may be a first, for me anyway and i%26#39;ll bet i%26#39;ve eaten in 4000 bbq joints.
Joe - Have I ever steered you wrong - I called 420 for you as well. Glad you like it - we took friends their last week and they thought it was ok - What????
I have a feeling my love of beer and dives might be the reason why some people were gender confused about me.
BBQ - Yes to the brisket and ribs (but I haven%26#39;t tried the ribs yet) They have jalapeno cole slaw and good beans. When you get the brisket it is served with a couple of pieces of Bunny bread.
I just love the smell of this place. Be a little careful in your haste to get there - drive slowly through the parking lot - they definitely need some repairs there.
