Paying for flights with credit card (Irish)

Hi, I know people in the UK who book flights with their credit card are covered if the airline goes bust, does the same apply for Irish credit cards?

Lets say I book a flight through the airlines website (let%26#39;s say, Continental, US Airways or similar) and pay with my card, will I be covered should the airline go pear shaped???
