Gluten free dining - NOT at Disney

It seems that Disney World is the happiest place on earth, especically if you have Celiac disease and must eat gluten free. However this is our first trip down since my dx and we aren%26#39;t going to Disney but will stay next to convention center on Int%26#39;l drive instead. I have found several chain places in town that offer gluten free menus (Outback, Carabba%26#39;s, PF Changs) but we%26#39;d love to go somewhere a little nicer if possible. We are booked for one dinner at Seasons 52 but we still have to find places to eat for the other two nights. Does anyone have any ideas of a place that is NOT on Disney propery that can accomodate a gluten free diner. And I don%26#39;t mean serving me bland, boring food but inspired dishes that don%26#39;t contain gluten. Thanks if anyone can help!

Gluten free dining - NOT at Disney

I have no answers, but am looking for the same information.

If you find info elsewhere, could you post it here?

My husband has to eat gluten free, and wanting few (bad) surprises in dining, we figure we%26#39;ll have to stay off WDW property. Just looking for our best options.

Here is where we ate last week in Orlando for dinner -

Seasons 52 - great for gluten eaters, BORING (but safe) for gluten free diners. www.seasons52.com

Roy%26#39;s - few gluten free options but what I had was outstanding (tiger prawns) but the choc dessert was out of this world. It%26#39;s a flourless souflee but it was like a %26#39;real%26#39; cake - not to be missed. www.roysrestaurant.com. E-mail them and tell them you need a gluten free meal before hand though.

I saved the best for last - Samba Room. This place is off the charts for food and service. It%26#39;s part of the e-brands group which I%26#39;d never heard of. The chef came to the table to go over the menu with me and even offered to make me gluten free crab cakes! Needless to say I took him up on his offer - no one has done that for me in a year of eating out gluten free. The coconut creme brulee was outstanding and I consider myself a bit of an expert on that dish.

www.zambaroom.net - don%26#39;t miss it!

Bump.

Thanks for the bump!

We%26#39;re off to Orlando again in a few months. We need three dinners out and assuming Samba Room can still accomodate gf diners, that leaves two nights. We used to go to Hemmingway%26#39;s each trip but have not been there since being gluten free. Anyone know if they can do gf meals there? Someone suggested Chatham%26#39;s Place but they were booked full last trip so we did not get by. I know they can do gf but is the place any good in general?

Any other ideas of places that are NOT chains would be most welcome. We might consider a Disney Hotel restuarant is one exists that doesn%26#39;t have kids running around. Maybe one of their really expensive places would fit the bill. It would be nice to have them make me hot gluten free bread....

FYI--The Samba Room is part of a chain.

Another chain, but Bonefish Grill is supposed to handle gluton free requests very well.

Oh yes, I should have clarified I meant not a boring chain with a gluten free menu that I can have here any day. We have a Bonefish Grill here and when I crave their awesome gf brownie we head over.

The Chef at Samba Room made me the first gluten free crab cakes I%26#39;d ever had when dining out. We have gluten free crab cakes on a menu at a place here now. They%26#39;re really good but they can%26#39;t touch those made for me at Samba Room!

If you%26#39;re looking for one of the Disney restaurants, I%26#39;d call their dining reservation line and tell them you need to have a gluten free meal and you want one of the nicer places. See which one they recommend. If you get a dud on the phone, hang up and call back! Most times if you%26#39;re looking for good info it only takes 2 tries at most to get a good cast member. The number for Disney Dining is 407-WDW-DINE. Unfortunately (or fortunately for me!) I don%26#39;t need gluten free meals, so I can%26#39;t recommend anywhere!

I thought of another place I have been with my friend who can%26#39;t have gluten--The Capital Grille in Pointe Orlando. Again, a chain, but a small one, and they have great food in a nice atmosphere. I think it%26#39;s the type of place you are looking for. :)
