When to exchange money?

Hi,

I was all set to exchange my money this week accepting the fact that I would not get a great rate for my 拢s. However, with the collapse of Lehman Bros I don%26#39;t know whether to hold out a little longer. I have 3 weeks to go. I know that it will effect the financial world everywhere but will we see an increase in the exchange rate from 拢 - $ before then?

We were fortunate and got our dollars last year for a rate of 2.04 to the pound. We would like exchange a few more before flying off to Orlando in 4 weeks time, but like you Chantal are unsure of whether to do it now or wait.... We will make a decision at the weekend and think we are favouring with drawing from ATM%26#39;s while we are over there, as with our account there will be no charges plus you tend to get a slightly better rate this way....

I%26#39;ve been watching the exchange rate throughout the day and there has been very little change. If anything the $ is a little stronger than this morning so I think I will be going ahead and changing my money this week.

We go on the 1st Oct, and almost cried when our stupid chancellor opened his big mouth. We are going to hold out for a while as I personally think it will go up a little before we go. M%26amp;S are currently doing $1.73, about 6c more than our local travel agent.

Kevker - check your local american express office, they offer better prices than m%26amp;s. I checked today. Currently at $1.76 and no commision.

This year we exchanged our money about 4 months in advance and received a rate better than the current one.

the greater the time between purchasing and going on holiday, the greater the rate in comparison to the current one.

I exchanged when the rate was 1.89 but received a rate of 1.95

glengibson, would you like to share where you managed to get a better rate of exchange than it was at the time or were you just responding to boast? lol ;o)

we exchanged half of our money a while ago when the exchange rate was good but had to pay for the holiday in the meantime which used up the rest of the funds, otherwise we would have exchanged earlier.

I was wondering the same thing although we aren%26#39;t going until April 09. Crown Currency had a better price yesterday than today so I was wondering if I should jump on it next time I see it hit $1.80 or hold out completely for a few months. I wish I had done it months ago when it was in the $2 range!

ChantalRose - I too have been watching ExRts over last couple of weeks - seen them reduce form about 1.83 to 1.7655 over last 2 - 3 weeks.

Travelmoneyservices.com are offering 1.7655 at moment - go on to gocompare.com or comparethemarket.com they will give you different companies.

I think i just googled compare exchange rates for the links.

I too exchanged money quote few months ago and got better exchange rate although cash will be delivered next week - we went with travelmoneyservices.co.uk and we got over $2 to the pound so well pleased with rate think for next Oct its about $1.82 ish.
