Need help with Fort Lauderdale trip 9-12 to 9-19

Hi, first time poster here. My GF and I are going to Ft Lauderdale 9/12 to 9/19. We are staying at the Marriott Beachplace. We won%26#39;t have a car and we%26#39;re 23 years old. Can you guys recommend some things for us to do?

We would like to snorkel one day, and another day we would like to on an everglades tour, but we don%26#39;t know how/where to go or to schedule a tour trip. Are there other fun types of activities or places we ';need'; to see in Ft. Lauderdale (besides the beach of course)?

we are planning to eat out most of the days, maybe once or twice at a fancier restaurant. We aren%26#39;t too picky w/ food and would be willing to try new and unfamiliar dishes. We heard of the dine out ft lauderdale preview that%26#39;s going on while we are there. Any suggestions from that list ? www.sunny.org/static/index.cfm?contentID=507

Also, are there fun hotspots to be at night? We are thinking a few nights at a chill place (jazz cafe/ local rock band type) and maybe a few clubby type places too. we aren%26#39;t the ones to get smashed and get crazy every night, but we do like to go and have fun

We are already planning to go to the Elbo room, Sloppy Joe%26#39;s, Dueling Piano Bars(?), and Sushi Rock Cafe.

I feel like we did a decent amount of research, but would just like to get some input from the experts *cough*awfulcat*cough*

Thanks!

I think two things - you had better check to be sure the Marriott will allow you to check in. Most hotels in the area will only allow people over 25.....

Secondly, keep an eye on the weather. We have some really nasty ';H'; storms out there, one can only guess where they%26#39;ll be heading, and they may be here around the same time you are.

Himmarshee Village is where the hotspots are. Lots of clubs/bars. ';Howl at the Moon'; is the dueling piano bar at Beach Place.

Dine Out Lauderdale starts on October 1st so it won%26#39;t be happening while you%26#39;re here. However, sunny.org has a lot of ideas on the website. Summer of Discovery may still be going on and there are two-for-one offers. It%26#39;s www.sunny.org/discovery and goes until September 30th.

When you land pick up a copy of the local paper Sun-Sentinel. You are arriving on a Friday and in Friday%26#39;s edition there is a section called Showtime. Showtime lists all the events, bands, etc happening for the upcoming week.

I think you may want to pass on going to the Everglades since you have no car. There is no easy way to get there without one. Instead you may enjoy the Carrie B cruise. In Friday%26#39;s Sun-Sentinel there is a 2 for 1 coupon. Use the sun trolley to get close to where Carrie B docks. After the cruise you can take a stroll down Las Olas and check out many of the fine restaurants there. Many are sidewalk cafes with the menus posted outside.

You already know about sunny.org

Make sure to also look at:

suntrolley.com

watertaxi.com

and maybe lbts.com They may have some snorkeling info.

Enjoy your trip!

There is a preview starting on September 15th for some of the restaurants participating in Dine out. Of the ones that start early, my suggestions would be Trina (if you want to walk from your hotel) and Chima (if you are a big carnivore). If you want to have dinner and then go out for some drinks, I would suggest Himmarshee Bar and Grill. This is in the Himmarshee District, which is where the action is at. Wednesday - Saturday is usually a good time to go there. Busier on Friday and Saturday, of course. Take the yellow trolley (ask for times) or take a taxi. It is about 5 minutes away. I would suggest walking around to see what place interests you once you get there. There isn%26#39;t a jazz cafe, but some have local bands. Most do cover songs only though. The Everglades tours are ';on the other side of the county'; and would require an expensive taxi. I don%26#39;t know of any tour companies that pickup by the beach. Maybe at the port?

I always think of Sloppy Joe%26#39;s and Howl at the Moon (Piano Bar) to be very touristy and kinda expensive. I prefer Lulu%26#39;s more than Sloppy Joe%26#39;s. It is on the other side of Beachplace. They have pretty good drinks. Also, check out Blondie%26#39;s too. Fun place to people watch and go after a day at the beach.

I hope that helps. Have fun!
