We are anxiously waiting for our trip in 2 weeks and want to know what things should not be missed during our stay? Thanks for the recommendations!
Not to be missed on Captiva?
We find that every year we come down we do less and less ';fun'; things and more and more ';vegging on the beach';. However I do remeber back when it was all new and here%26#39;s a few things we really enjoyed in no particular order.
Walking down to Jensens and watching the birds and Manatees.
Shelling cruise to Cayo Costa.
Doing the YOLO Parasailing thing.
Fishing the bay with one of the great guides they have on Captiva.
Renting kyaaks and doing the Commodore Trail at Tarpon Bay.
Hiking the Indigo Trail at Ding Darling.
Buying an over-priced meal and watching the sunset at the Mucky Duck. (since we now rent a beachfront cottage we watch the sunsets from our back deck)
Dancing on the roof-top deck that used to sit on top of the Stafford House. At least until the law showed up to ask us to tone it down. (very politely I might add)
I%26#39;m sure you will get a ton of suggestions. I think You may find though, that just sitting and walking the beach and around the village will eat up an amazing amount of time. Remember...you will be on Island time...so just relax and enjoy.
Not to be missed on Captiva?
I adore visiting Chapel By The Sea and the little adjoining historic cemetery. Very quaint and touching.
The Nascrab races at the Crow%26#39;s Nest Lounge at %26#39;Tween Waters Inn is also a good time.
The Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum on Sanibel is very interesting. You also don%26#39;t want to miss taking a drive through the Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge (also on Sanibel). Early morning or near sunset is the best time to spot wildlife there.
Walk over to the Island Store and get a nice ice cold coke in the bottle.
The view of the sunsets from the beach!
Get an ice cream at McCarthys Marina and sit on the docks to watch for Manatee and Otters.
Pub hop - have an adult beverage at each restaurant and enjoy all the different people and sites - they are within walking distance, so enjoy!
