Visa debit card

I just thought I would let people know that some banks have put up their charges for withdrawls at ATM%26#39;s in the U.S,I rang my bank this morning they told me they will charge 拢4.90 for every 拢100 I take out,on my Visa debit card,I%26#39;m sure this is considerably more that last year,so I think it%26#39;s back to good old Dollar travellers cheques for me, As sadly I cancelled my nationwide flex account!

And one last note don%26#39;t forget to inform your bank you are going away because some are now red hot on what they seem as unusual transactions and will cancel the card stright away, sometimes you only find out when you go to make a transaction, then you have the hassle of ringing the U.K call centre to get it re- activated, Which can take up to 24 hours.

I don%26#39;t think any european bank will inactivate your international card without checking with you first, that%26#39;s why they have your contact information.

I arrived in Miami on September 5th and started using my card right away. The bank called my mobile Sat afternoon because they saw a ';lot of activity';....I told them I was just shopping and they should expect even more activity in the next 10 days, and that was that.

We are planning to use our Nationwide debit card in Orland to withdraw money from ATM%26#39;s. I know there are no charges by Nationwide but are the American Banks adding charges?

The ATM machine may add a charge for cash withdrawals.

I used an ATM at Universal and there was no charge for using the machine with my Nationwide debit card.

cc7bern, its not uncommon for a european bank to stop a card they see being used in a different country. having used both english and irish cards i always make sure the bank are notified.

The Nationwide do not charge when you use your Debit Card abroad but some ATMs do charge, but you are notified on screen before you take the money out, very similar to soem ATMs in this country.

We used our Nationwide card when we were in Florida 4 weeks ago.

I have never had any credit or debit card stopped even though I never inform my banks when I%26#39;m going abroad. If the card is being used in an ATM in and but the password is correct, they should not stop anything before checking with the customer first. I travelled quite often and to inform the banks everytime I%26#39;m going abroad is just too much; but maybe UK banks have a different approach?

Barclays stop. sometimes you manage to get one withdrawal and then stop. cue very expensive call from USA. Now is on travel list to update our location in online banking. Nationwide don%26#39;t stop and you don%26#39;t have to advise them due to ';so many of their customers going abroad';.

i was in Orlando at the end of June and used my visa debit card as a %26#39;switch%26#39; card in the shops. BIG MISTAKE. My bank i should mention is only HBOS!! i did call them before going to inform them of my intention to use the card. i didn%26#39;t withdraw cash from ATM machine but maybe i should have. Each time i used my card to %26#39;switch%26#39; i was being charged 拢1.50 per transaction by my bank. This ended up costing me in the region of 拢35 just to use my own money:( So please anyone planning on using their card like i did, check with your bank to see if you will be charged just for using it.

alliance and leicester stopped my card while we were in egypt in july.took me 3 days of hanging on,and getting cut off and about 拢20 in phone calls to finally get thru to them and get it reactivated, lesson ,you have to inform them, they are only looking after your interests

Just a footnote to my original post,Alliance and Leicester are especially hot on transactions which they deem are out of the ordinary,If you ring their call centre one of the options to press on a touchtone phone is specifically to inform them you are going abroad.

One of my collegues is a part time journalist and travels frequently, his card has been stopped twice without him being informed, because he travelled to Germany and Belgium in one day and back to Germany,Which Abbey deemed %26#39;unusual%26#39;.

Banks have different criteria for %26#39;unusual%26#39;.

But thanks to Alliance %26amp; Leicester %26amp; their observance they cancelled my card when it was cloned and used by someone to holiday in Bali, for 拢3000!before they could reach the limit on the card, which was pretty high at the time as I had only used it twice. So I Thank them for that.
