I am looking for basically an inexpensive get away in the clearwater area. I have had a very stressful year and will have three days for me for the first time in YEARS and will be spending them in the Clearwater area. any suggestions?

One day you will want to visit Caladesi Island. You take a boat there from Dunedin Cswy, it is a natural island, only man-made structure is some restrooms and a concessions stand and boat docks. REAL FLORIDA BEACH. Inexpesive!

If you are looking for inexpensive, choose hotels that are not on the water. U.S. Hwy 19 is the main highway (with lots of traffic and lights) and there are several hotels up and down this street as well as on Gulf to Bay (where the original Hooters is located.) The Fairfield Inn, for example, on Gulf to Bay Blvd., is in the middle of a crossroads that can take you anywhere you want to go.

Will you have a car? If not buses travel the most popular streets. www.psta.net

Besides the beach, there are some great Malls for shopping. Visit the famous dolphin (Winter) at the Clearwater Aquarium. Get into nature at one of the many county parks.

Caladesi Island is part of Honeymoon Island State Park. You need to go to the end of the Dunedin Causeway, pay entry to the park, and pay extra for the ferry ride to Caladesi. Voted one of America%26#39;s best beaches. Honeymoon Island is nice on it%26#39;s own, if you want to avoid the extra cost of the ferry. I am a docent there.

If you are driving into Clearwater on the Courtney Campbell Causeway, route 60, stop at the Welcome Center (look for signs) and pick up maps and information. There%26#39;s another visitor center on the beach.

Lots of small galleries around in the small cities around Clearwater. The Dunedin Art Center, The Largo Cultural Center, Leepa Rattner Art Museum in Tarpon Springs. The Largo Center puts on shows that are very inexpensive.

You didn%26#39;t say when you were coming but in October is the popular Clearwater Jazz Holiday for 4 days and FREE featuring top performers. It%26#39;s held in Coachman Park.
