I have been searching for many hours trying to pick a beach and a bungalo/cottage for my family. We are going to Disney in June 09 and after a long week there I wanted to show the kids (20 %26amp; 14) the ocean. I am looking for a quaint, quieter, sweet, ';Old Florida'; feel. We are only staying 2 nights, which I am finding it difficult as many places want a week. I would love any advice you can give as this is my first time in Florida as well.
Help! Need ideas for cottage on quiet beach-Take a look at Sun %26#39;n Fun at www.sunfun1925.com . Apartments with an ';Old Florida'; cottage feeling, and since they post nightly rates, I presume you can rent just two nights. The beach at Indian Shores is lovely and quiet.
Help! Need ideas for cottage on quiet beach-This looks nice. Have you stayed here before? The rates are very reasonable.
I have not stayed there, but I have stayed just up the road. That%26#39;s how I can vouch for the beach at Indian Shores and the ';look'; of these cottages. Haven%26#39;t stayed there myself, but if I were you, I would take a chance. There are only a few ';Old Florida'; style cottages left in Indian Shores and Indian Rocks Beach, and most will require a minimum stay of a week in June -- as you discovered. Get a Gulf front apartment, if it%26#39;s available. Not one fronting the road (Gulf Boulevard); I think that might have too much traffic noise.
Okay. I will look into it. I really liked the look of Sara%26#39;s Seaside Cottages...but again I need a week. If there are any suggestion on places to eat, or things to do that would be great! Does the trolley that I heard about go past this hotel or nearby?
The Beach Trolley (www.psta.net/beachtrolley.htm) runs past everything on Gulf Boulevard, including the two cottage complexes you%26#39;ve named. Sarah%26#39;s Seaside is an attractive group of cottage apartments with pool in Indian Rocks Beach, but as you found, I believe they have a one-week minimum. And I think they are quite a bit pricier than Sun %26#39;n Fun, which does not have a pool or gardens. The beaches of the two properties are virtually identical -- both great.
Lots of places to eat and things to do. Look at this website www.floridasbeach.com for more on attractions in the area. There is a visitors center with discount coupons at the corner of S.R. 688 and Gulf Boulevard when you enter Indian Rocks Beach from the mainland. Nearby restaurants include the Pub, Villa Gallace (Italian), a Mexican restaurant, Crabby Bill%26#39;s and PJ%26#39;s (both seafood), the Lighthouse donut shop, JD%26#39;s, Salt Rock Grill, Guppy%26#39;s, and more. Even a very nice French provencal restaurant, La Cachette.
Thank you so much for your help. We went to Hawaii last year, but I am so excited to go on this trip. I am thrilled I do not have an 8 hour flight and I hear the water is just as beautiful here!
Again...thank you very much!
Stayed in Indian Shores for 3 nights in August with our 2 children (12 and 17) and it was wonderful. Went on a kayak trip with mr buddy (www.mrbuddy.com), and had manatees coming up alongside our kayak, within touching distance. Just amazing.
We stayed at Sunburst Inn, apartments which get mixed reviews. Location is perfect, deck overlooking sea is great place to relax. It has an old world feel about it, not overly modernised!
Hope you have a great break.
Thank you so much for your response! It sounds like you had a wonderful time.
Did you notice any other places that you would recommend? Any other things you would recommend doing? I think I am more excited about my 3 days here instead of Disney/Epcot!
Thanks again!
Having replied to your posting, it made me want to remind myself about how great the time in Indian Shores was. Had a look at mr buddys website, and found I put the wrong address - its actually www.mrbuddys.com (I%26#39;d missed off the %26#39;s%26#39;).
We chose to have a few tranquil days on the coast, to relax. We were staying in an apartment directly overlooking the beach, with direct access to the sands. We swam in the sea, which was the temperature of bath water, walked the beach looking for sharks teeth along the tide line (found 3), and had our trip in the kayaks. Found a bird identification card, and became keen bird spotters whilst relaxing on the beach for an hour or so. Paddled in the sea, and saw several huge rays. Forgot to add that when kayaking we also got up close to a pair of dolphin, who were only about 5 feet away. Flew a kite.
Have a look at sunburst inn website, it may not be what you are after. Its not modern and it hasn%26#39;t got a pool. What it has got though is a timeless feeling of weathered wooden decking and amazing sunsets.
