Downtown Disney

We are staying near Wet %26amp; Wild on International Drive and I%26#39;m trying to find the easiest way to get to Downtown Disney - we are not hiring a car !

So far as I understand it we can go to Port Orleans Resort, Old Keywest Resort or Saratoga Springs Resort and catch a ferry ?

or

catch a Disney World bus from Disney Resorts ?

or

catch a Mears shuttle and go to Pleasure Island and walk ?

Is there not a bus that goes from International Drive ?

Is it ok to catch a bus from a Disney Resort even if we are not staying there ?

Many thanks for any info.

Use LYNX buses.

Catch a southbound LYNX 8 from any stop on I-Drive. Pay $1.75 (exact fare) each and **ask for a transfer**. Take and keep the ticket.

Get off the 8 at a stop near Sea World. Tell the 8 driver you are transferring to LYNX 50 and (s)he%26#39;ll tell you where best to get off. It will take 20-25 minutes.

Wait at the same stop for LYNX 50. This will take you right to DownTown Disney. Again, ask the driver where to get off, but if you keep your eyes open, you will see it. It will take about 15 minutes.

And the same in reverse. Pay $1.75 when you get on the 50 and **ask for a transfer**. Transfer onto an 8 near Sea World.

50%26#39;s run every 30 minutes 7 days a week and the last one leaving Disney Marketplace is just after 11.15pm.

8%26#39;s run every 10-15 minutes during the daytime Mon-Fri; ;ess frequent in the evenings and at weekends. Late buses run until well after midnight Mon-Fri, earlier on Sat, and earlier still on Sun.

You can get precise schedules for these and all other LYNX services at www.golynx.com.

Forget about the Disney resorts you mention; that information is of relevance to residents of those resorts only. But as an aside, Disney Transport is free to anyone who wants to use it.

If you are staying near WnW and need to get about without a car, then LYNX will take you to all the likely attractions and shopping venues. Check out some of my other posts for more about LYNX, and consider buying a $14 weekly ticket for best value and convenience. (forget the more or less useless I-Ride Trolley).

P.S.: I should have made it clearer. The purpose of the transfer ticket is that you use it to get on your next bus ';free';. So you only pay one fare $1.75 each way, regardless of having to change buses.

I just noticed that I answered this question in my full details reply I gave to your other thread. May I suggest you re-read that reply for more information?

Scan - many thanks for taking time to reply - when you replied with all the Lynx info to a previous post I printed it out and put it in my little folder to bring with me - I didn%26#39;t notice the bit about DD -sorry about that ! and it was kind of you to take time to reply again - much appreciated.

No probs, glad to have helped.

Scan60 - you should enter Mastermind with Lynx bus timetables as your specialist subject, do you live in Orlando?

No, nowhere near. But I do have a superficial knowledge of the geography (from having been there several times), and use of the Internet, including the bus company%26#39;s website.

very impressive, if not renting a car your advice is invaluble especially to 1st timers

Which Hotel are you staying at??? They may well offer a Shuttle Service to the Disney Parks? If so, you could get a shuttle to the Magic Kingdom Ticket %26amp; Transportation Centre then use the Disney Transport to get to DTD.

Thing about shuttles is

- unless they are ';free';, they can be quite costly

- they can be quite time consuming (as, indeed, are buses, of course) if they call at many hotels before heading off to wherever they are going

- typically they run to a very limited, 2 or 3 times a day at best, schedule.

Whereas LYNX is inexpensive, still fairly slow, but typically every 30 minutes all day, so reasonably flexible.
