Carrie B...does sun trolly go that far...??

Hi there...after reading this forum, I am interested in the Carrie B tour. We will be staying at Embassy Suites on 17th street and will NOT have a car. Is there an inexpensive way to get there?? The sun trolly stops near our hotel, but not sure if it goes close to Carrie B%26#39;s. We would prefer not to take a taxi as there is 6 of us, and we may need two taxis$$$. Does a city bus work for that?? Perhaps the water taxi might, but then by the time we pay for 6 of us on the water taxi, it would%26#39;ve been cheaper to take a real taxi. Then again, maybe not???

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

You would have to transfer from the 17th St. trolley to the one that goes up Las Olas Blvd., or you could take the Water Taxi which you can pick up at the Convention Center which is just down the street from Embassy Suites.

Harry%26#39;s got it right as usual!! ( Hi Harry!). Your choices are the Sun Trolley across 17th St and then north to Las Olas , where you transfer to another Sun Trolley that runs across Las Olas. If you are there on one of the days when the Sun Trolley isn%26#39;t running ( rare usually midweeek), there will be a City Bus that will run across 17th St and up the Beach( stops all along 17th St. ) Then you can once again catch Sun Trolley across Las Olas to the area of Cheesecake Factory ( look for the Carrie B%26#39;s tent just south of Jackson%26#39;s Steakhouse along the waterway). And tell Capt. Seaton Lulutoo sends her regards ( great guy!)

The alternative would be to get an all day Water Taxi pass for $13 pp- Water Taxi leaves from the Convention Center just a few blocks east of the Embassy Suites and you can then ride it all day hopping on and off as you please. I think teh nearest stop for the Carrie B would be Mangos a few blocks east. Once again you%26#39;ll have to tranfer from the South -North line to the East -West line at Las Olas and the boat trip is slower, but of course more scenic. I%26#39;m sure the Embassy has brochures/maps for both.

Whichever you decide , you can get discount buy /one get one coupons for Carrie B by either buying a Friday Sun Sentinel and looking in the Showtime section for the coupon or looking for a free City Link weekly, which comes out on Wednesdays and should be available for free the rest of the week in racks around 17th St- I think probably near the Publix, if you don%26#39;t find one elsewhere.

if you have time and want to spend extra time on the Waterway that day , opt for Water Taxi- if not Sun Trolley or City Bus will work and the drivers will help you find your way! Enjoy! even we locals love Carrie B( at least this one does!)

PS- not sure a real taxi would beallowed to hold six- if it does it would be a good option too, but since Water Taxi can take you both ways for $13pp it would probably be about as cheap, provided you have the time- but a taxi ( or even two) would probably be about $5 pp in my ';guessimate'; each way, so certainly an option if it comes to that. I have seen tax-vans taht would hold six - but not sure if Embassy could call one for you- you might ask, but establish the fare before they call- some hotel employees ( in some hotels , not necessarily ES) have a habit of throwing business to higher priced ';car services '; run by friends in exchannge for a kickback.

thank you so much for all of your info...and so fast, too!!

I think we will go ahead and do the sun trolley. It will be on a Saturday, so it should be running. We%26#39;ll do the transfer when we get to Las Olas....do you know if you re-pay to get on the different route, or if you can just transfer over. Not that it really matters, it%26#39;s only 50 cents...but I%26#39;ll know how much change to bring.

We are really looking froward to the tour...and being so envious of all those rich homes amongst the palm trees. I will look in those papers for the coupons, but not sure if they will still be running the special by the time we get there.

Again, thanks for the info!!

check at sunny.org for their ';Summer of Discovery'; brochure as it has two-for-one specials. As well, there may be other things of interest to you on the site as well.

Taxi%26#39;s will only take a maximum of 5 passengers so you%26#39;d have to take two taxi%26#39;s. Carrie B has gotten great reviews and I%26#39;m thinking of going myself. Us locals should have SOME fun!!!

I will say, on certain days, the Sun Trolley comes right past the dock. I think that is weekends only, but I haven%26#39;t seen them come by lately. Any stop near SE 5th Avenue and Las Olas puts you in close proximity to the boat. Tell the Sun Trolley driver you need to get off at Jackson%26#39;s Steakhouse. The boat is right behind Jackson%26#39;s.

I didn%26#39;t know I was *that* great! *chuckles*

We will be visiting from Ontario on the first Saturday in October and plan on visitng the wonderful Captain Seaton on the Carrie B. How accessible is the Sun Trolley? One of us uses a walker and we wish to travel from our Beachfront hotel to the Carrie B on the Las Olas Sun Trolley.

After, we were going to visit the Harbour Shops on the Sun Trolley Convention route. Within that geograhical location, is there a restaurant that serves simply cooked food? - Pho Soup or light BBQ or broiled/grilled plates would be great.

May I say that this forum is excellent and I plan on using the Carrie B coupons as recommended. Thanks lulutoo!!

I think I can answer your question better if you tell us which Beachfront hotel you are staying in.

Also wanted to mention so you will know that the harbor Shops really don%26#39;t have much ';shopping';- mainly a grocery store, wine shop, a card shop and a few very small boutiques- if you are looking to %26#39;shop'; it may be disappointing and not worth the trip. It is home to one of my personal favorite restaurants - Coco%26#39;s Asian Bistro- and while I cannot recall if it has pho - as my attention is always to the stir fries while braver friends concentrate on sushi ( I know I should try it but I just don%26#39;t unless it is on a buffet in Vegas), one friend of mine had a bowl of a duck soup with noodles there that was truly magnificent and they have a chicken coconut soup that is much lighter and also delicious. There is also a casual sports bar type place there called Gators that has some fish dishes etc- but it has seemed to be in the process of menu change and I can%26#39;t recall what they serve in the way of grilled items- I recall lots of baskets like fried shrimp. I%26#39;ll see if I can turn up and post websites for both and also fro Southport Raw Bar- a locals ';joint'; about two blocks north of that which usually has great fresh fish- don%26#39;t know if that is accessible in your situation, but you%26#39;ll find lots of locals in their second best shorts eating there ( self included)
